Bible Study: Homosexuality

Written By DILLON

Just recently i had viewed a yahoo news story in wich a lesbian teenager was awarded 35,000 dollars for discrimination when the school district she attended would not allow her to attend the prom. This really got my attention because i know homosexuality is a rising problem in America, and i felt obligated to tell you Gods view on homosexuality. Before you exit this page, thinking im just another christian whos going to condemn you, please consider reading this whole article so you can have a better understanding on our views of why it is wrong. Allright first let me start off by stating the obvious. God does think homosexuality is wrong. When God created man, he created a woman for that man. His first creations were Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve. Here is a scripture to validate. "Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable (Leviticus 18:22)" Right there, God tells us that he views homosexuality as detestable. Why, because as stated in Mark 10:6-9 states, when we get married to a woman we become "one flesh" (till death do us part). I understand the view of many homosexuals. They say "God tells us to come as you are" and "He loves us and will forgive us". I am not going to lie, yes God does love us, and yes he does ask that we come to him. "for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved (Romans 10:13)" But why do you think God ask's us to come to him? God ask us to come as we are, because as we are, we are fallible sinful creatures incapable of paying the debt for our own sins, and need Jesus to change us and give us salvation. God didn't say "Come as you are, just for the heck of it" He tells us to call upon him because we are in need of his saving grace, in need of his love and forgiveness, and in need of the change he is willing to provide. Yes God is loving, but he is also Just. This means that although he loves you, he is more then willing to punish you because of your wicked ways. And if that doesn't convice you, take a look at Matthew 7:21-23. It says "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?' And then will I declare to them, 'I never knew you depart from me, you workers of lawlessness" You see, simply because you call on his name doesn't mean your saved. He says depart from me you workers of lawlessness. Its like someone who thinks they are saved because they call on the lord (believe in the lord) but because they chose to live in there sin God will not allow them into heaven. Thats scripture is aimed at the people who think being saved is an excuse to live in sin and still reap Gods rewards. Now take a look at this next verse im sure many homosexuals are not familiar with. "Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God (1 Corinthians 6:9-10)" Take a look at this verse. What does it mean to you? When it comes down to it, Do you really want to roll the dice and gamble your eternal salvation for the pleasures of this world. Sure it's fun now, but when you die in sin and God will not allow you to inherit his kingdom, and you spend eternity condemned in hell, what good will your earthly pleasures serve you then. Its something to think about. I mean God really does love you. He sent his only son to die on the cross to forgive you of the very sins you feel stuck in. He is more then willing to help you get through the ordeal you face that seems impossible to overcome. But all things are possible through Jesus Christ. If you continue on to Corinthians 6:11, it says "And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God." You see, it says That is what you WERE. It is past tense, it means after you actually become SAVED, that is not what you are. You cannot be saved and be a homosexual the matter what the world says. The way i see it is that you need to trust in God and his promises and the not the world and its promises, because in the end only what you do for Christ will remain. Now i want you to take a look at John 3:16. It says "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life". This verse has been misunderstood, and has been veiwed as that because of his death we are all entitled to eternal life. If you continue from John 3:16 to John 3:16-18 it says "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son. Its easy to say you believe in Jesus. But think of it like this. Satan believes in Jesus, he know Jesus is real, but were is he? Thats because he too turned from Gods love and Gods law, and he is also going to face ever lasting torment along with the wicked who remain unforgiven on Judgement Day. If you think about it, if you really believed in Jesus you would also believe in the promises he made. And he promised that the sexually immoral would not inherit his kingdom. Although none are sinless (Romans 3:10 & Romans 3:23) we all should strive to be. I personally am not a homosexual so i dont understand what it is like, the reasoning behind it, the trouble escaping from it. Alls i do know is that it is punishable by God. I know it can't be easy, but God loves you more then you could ever possibly know and he wants more then anything to help you. Alls you have to do is pray sincerley, and have a open heart ready to recieve his answer. Lets face it this world has us all numb to sin. We live were sin is the air we breath. Thats why people try to justify wrong acts like homosexuality. Sure it seems OK and harmless because the world constantly tells us that. In fact, the media and everyone encourages and supports this behavior. But lets break outside of our sin for just a short moment to realize Gods view on all of this. Take a look at Isaiah:8-9. It says "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts". We as sinful humans can't understand the reasons of a perfect sinless God. But even though we may think (and do think) that homosexuality is OK, its not hurting anybody. God sees it as an extremley sinful offense, worthy of eternal punishment. If you think about it, it must be really bad if he would send you to eternal punishment for it. And i know that despite this arguement i have written before you that many will still try to convince themselfs that homosexuality is OK, That there is nothing wrong with it. Then i would like you to check out one of my personal all time favorite verses. Romans 3:20. It says "Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin" To make this easier to understand, it means that because we know Gods law (wich was made aware to us in this particular case through Corinthians 6:9-10) that you cannot justify your acts in his holy presence. And because we understand the law, we understand that what we are doing is sinful. So in turn we need to come to God with hearts willing to serve, ready to recieve salvation. I hope this article has helped clarify any questions you may have had about God and his view on homosexuality. I don't want you to think i wrote this to condemn homosexuals. Its actually quit opposite. I wrote this because i care enough about you that i don't want you to have to spend eternity in hell. I want you to recognize that your a sinner and desperatley need Gods forgiveness. Wich is free only by trusting in his only son Jesus Christ. So please, what ever it may take, do what ever you have to do to break from out of the shackles of sin that homosexuality has you bound in. Trust in God with all your heart and he will see you through. "Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him (James 1:12)". Thanks for reading.
